I work with foundations and nonprofits using narrative and the power of listening to bring about social change.
I'm originally from South Africa and started my career as a radio presenter and journalist. I then worked for a leading democracy NGO, supporting community radio and local news organizations. I moved to the US in 2010 and was Director of Media and Narratives at the Open Society Public Health Program for 12 years. Now I run my own consultancy, Wingseed (wingseed.org).
Here is a description of what I do using the thousand most used words in English:
We all have stories in our heads and in our hearts. These stories are about the world and how it works. They help us figure out what to believe and what to do. We forget they are stories and we think we are really seeing the world, but we are seeing the world through the stories in our heads. If we want to change something important in the world, we need to help people see the stories as stories. We need to change the stories people have in their heads so they can see the world in a different way and act in a different way. I help people who want to change something important in the world, figure out how to change the stories in people's heads and in their hearts.
